H.J. BEVERSDORFF

(1880 – 1941)

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 in the First Baptist Church for Henry J. Beversdorff, who died in the Luling Hospital at 12:40 Tuesday morning, May 6, after an illness of several weeks, suffered from the effects of influenza.

Dr. Melvin C. Eidson, pastor of the First Baptist Church conducted the services, following with interment in the Luling City Cemetery. The Choral Club under the direction of Mrs. Miles sang the hymns.

He was born in Luling on July 31, 1880 and at the time of his death was 60 years, 9 months and 6 days of age. He attended the Luling High School in his boyhood days; and on June 18, 1911 was married to Miss Martha Huff of Flatonia, who is a beloved teacher of the McNeil schools at this time. To them were born three sons, Henry J. Jr., who is in the Army service and is stationed at Lincoln, Neb.; Lance A. who is also in the service and is stationed at Ft. Sill, Okla.; and Frank Murl, who resides in Luling. In addition he is also survived by four sisters: Mrs. Geo. B. French of Luling, Miss Lyl Beversdorff of Luling, Mrs. R.J. Millican of San Antonio and Mrs. D.M. Day of Lockhart.

Mr. Beversdorff was a pioneer citizen of Luling, and in his earlier days, took an active part in all community interests, having been a member of the old Luling Band, a member of Mrs. Miles’ Choral Club and also an active member of the Firemen in its early days. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church for many years, and was also a member of the W.O.W. organization at the time of his passing.

He was a much-loved personality as was evidenced by the large concourse of friends who attended his funeral, and by the great mass of floral tributes. He was a good citizen, a good friend, kind and generous and will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs. J. D. Lastry, Mr. & Mrs. H. D. Holmgreen, and daughter, Betty Jane, and R.J. Millican, all of San Antonio; Mr. And Mrs. S.T. Beversdorff and family of Yoakum, Mrs. Agnes B. Stagner, and J. P. Baker of Corpus Christi; and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Stagner of Freer, Texas, as well as a host of other relatives and friends from Flatonia, San Angelo, and other sections.
